Community Workshops

Intro To Robotics (Grades 1-3)
July 28-29, 2021
We Will Announce Future Dates Soon!

This two-session workshop will introduce children (grades 1-3) to the wonder, mechanics, and potential of robots. It will take place over two days, one session per day. By the end of the workshop, children will know what a robot is, how it works (including the role of code), and what it means to code. They will also learn how to plan, design, and prototype a robot to solve a specific problem in our community.

We include fun activities that will teach your child about robots while also keeping them engaged. They will also have the opportunity to see the Wellesley Robotics Team’s competition-winning robot in action!

Bonus for Brownie Girl Scouts: Though open to all children each session is badge eligible!

This camp is run by Erica Huang and Howard Xu, Wellesley High School rising juniors and lead members of Wellesley Robotics Team Ultraviolet #8567.

100% of proceeds will go to the Wellesley Robotics Team, a 501c3 non-profit organization whose mission is to provide hands-on STEM opportunities to a diverse group of high school students.

Can't make these dates or have an older child? Join our mailing list for future workshops.

Session One “All About Robots!” Wed. 7/28 @2pm

Children will learn what a robot is, how it works (including the role of code), and what it means to code. We will introduce your child to Scratch!, a block coding website. Note: please bring a laptop or tablet if you have one.

Session Two “Designing a Robot!” Thurs. 7/29 @2pm

Children will learn how to plan, design, and prototype a robot to solve a specific problem in our community. They will receive feedback on their designs and then present final designs. Note: personal laptops and tablets will not be needed.
